Together, we investigate and communicate

In the Department of Languages, Literatures, and Cultures, together we discover, engage, and learn. From understanding a river along the Camino de Santiago in Spain to teaching language skills to elementary students and exploring better ways to serve Spanish-speaking pet owners, students and faculty are applying their global perspectives and linguistic knowledge to understand and help others.

Together, we advance the human experience.

Collaborate

A recent grant from PetSmart Charities will provide Shannon Zeller, Spanish faculty, and her colleague in the College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences in their study of how veterinarians can better serve their Spanish speaking clients and pet owners. In June, Zeller and her team will partner with veterinary clinics and shelters along the Front Range to observe daily routines and communication among veterinarians, technicians, customer service representatives and Spanish-speaking clientele.

Learn

A volunteer relationship with a local international school provides CSU language students with the opportunity to practice their language skills and teach elementary students who are studying that language. CSU students get classroom experience and the elementary school gets extra language and classroom support.

Discover

A river in Spain has brought together two CSU faculty members from Spanish and Ecosystem Science, as well as a couple of their students, to provide a comprehensive look at the history and environment of the Camino de Santiago. The collaboration, including education abroad trips and overseeing two student capstone projects, has taught them that the humanities and sciences can enrich and inform each other, and provide students with a more complete and fulfilling educational experience.
