Connecting Pilgrimage and Migration

Literature doesn't just tell stories but reveals the patterns that unite us across cultures and centuries.

Growing up in Jalisco, Mexico, assistant professor Mario Jimenez Chacon embarked on a childhood pilgrimage to visit the Virgin of Talpa. Years later, while reading "The Epic of Gilgamesh" in college, he recognized that both stories centered on transformative journeys. By comparing literary works from around the world, he shows how these journeys cross cultural boundaries. "We are all part of a larger human community," he said.

In this podcast, Jimenez Chacon examines how ancient pilgrimage stories mirror contemporary migration experiences, which his research shows as a fundamental human experience.
